Ahead of her Korean comeback earlier this month, the beautiful and talented IU released ‘Monday Afternoon’ to ease into her new sound. Enchanting, uplifting and reminiscent of her earlier tastes, we take a peek into her wardrobe, Monday PM style…
Cream Cable Knit Sweater – The humble knit is a failsafe option for Monday afternoons, right? Something in a cable knit or textured fisherman’s knit is ideal for those slumber-necessary afternoons on the opening day of the week. We love the Miss Selfridge Cream Longerline Waffle Jumper (£35) and the Cocopop Sequinned Pocket Knit Top (£17.95). Size up so the sleeve cuffs fall by the hands for that cutesy, IU inspired look.
Distressed Shorts – Alright, so they’re not essential for the chillier autumnal weather nor for Monday afternoons, strictly speaking, but that signature oversized sweater and shorts look is a must-have in K-pop fashion. Try these Topshop MOTO Bleach Rip Shorts (£32), or better yet, grab those jeans that have gone a bit too baggy at the knees, lop them off at the thigh, and take some scissors and a grater to the uppers. There.
Long Socks – The onslaught of October means that it’s a-okay to crack out the long socks. If you’re a firm member of the No Tights Club (sadly we gave up our membership at the weekend after turning blue at the Cheese and Wine Fest), these are the ideal in-between choice. Opt for a bright jewel hue for a statement, but taupes and neutrals are great for, y’know, outdoors wear. We like the H&M Natural White Knee Socks (£6.99).
Navy Polka Dot Dress – The season and nation’s favourite print, the humble polka dot returns with IU’s off-shoulder dress. We found similar numbers at H&M (£14.99), but a handy tip off informs us that charity shops are teeming with similar styles. Go polka dotty crazy and have an amble, do-gooders!
Red Court Heels – A slick of red at the sole is the Aesthetic favourite at the moment. By the by, red court heels paired with navy polkas is classic, quirky and oh so cute. We spied these KG Kurt Geiger Red Bastille Courts (£95) or for a more affordable option, these New Look Red Ankle Strap Heel Sandals (£17.99) are absolutely perfect. Go on and treat yourself…
Berry Lip Stain – For IU’s just bitten lips, pat a light layer of MAC’s Rebel (£15) on the lips. Blend in with your fingers to keep everything matte and extra long-lasting. If you’re still a lipstick shy type, we also love the Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum (£5.99).
Hair Bow – Finally, it wouldn’t be an IU comeback without some form of cutesy hair accessory, right? Right. We adore the printed, glitter and textured selection over at Beauxoxo for an extra detail to your Monday afternoon attire.
