This weekend, pull on your comfiest clothes and get ready for a cultured feasting of the nation’s favourite indulgence – cheese. The Southbank Centre is playing host to 3 days of demonstrations, tutored tastings and talks about cheese and wine. Coordinated by top chef Valentina Harris, you’ll be able to watch chefs demonstrating a whole host of cheese and wine based recipes.

Perfect for a relaxed day for two, or for picking up some treats for gifting, here’s what we’re most looking forward to:

Friday 11th October 2013

12:00-12:45pm: The Daily Quiz by Valentina Harris – More of a fun one, test your foodie credentials in this informal quiz. Prizes are up for grabs as donated by Parmigiano Reggiano. Free to attend.

15:00-15:45pm: Tutored Cider Tasting with Ben Weller of Twisted Cider: Apples to Cider – Ben Weller is a self-professed cider lover. Accompanied by fellow cider-head, Jackson Berrett, they produce three varieties of Misty Cider from apples grown on their orchard in Dorset. Ben will share the secrets of changing raw apple juice into scrummy scrumpy, talk about the history of cider, give you some tips on hunting out the elusive perfect cider, and give you a chance to taste the Misty version. £2 entry.

Saturday 12th October 2013

13:00-13:45pm: Cooking Demonstration with Vrysaki: Cooking with Halloumi – A silver medal winner at the World Cheese Awards in 2012, Vrysaki supplies a variety of independent stores and restaurants across the UK. Learn a variety of recipes built around Aesthetic’s favourite cheese. £2 entry.

Sunday 13th October 2013

13:00-13.45pm: Tutored Cheese Tasting and Wine Pairing with Patricia Michelson of La Fromagerie: Creating the perfect cheeseboard – Patricia will select 8 cheeses that make up a perfect seasonal cheeseboard and choose a wine to partner. It’s all about understanding how to place the cheeses in the order of taste and so to harmoniously make the flavours sing and the wine to dance! £15 entry.

Patricia will have her two books ‘CHEESE’ and ‘Cheese: Exploring Taste and Tradition’ available for purchase and signing at this demonstration.

15:00-15:45pm: A cooking demonstration with Steve Walpole of UGO: Britalian street food – Steve will showcase British and Italian produce from cheese to cured meats to create a range of easy quick bites that will show the versatility and simplicity of street food in a style he calls ‘Britalian’£2 entry.
