Fashion Week season is already upon us and before we start to get our heads around what we should be wearing next summer, let’s have a recap on what we need in our wardrobes now.
This season I’m making a conscious decision to live by just eight key statement pieces. Mixing these up with my basics, the idea is that I will look sharp, effortless and sophisticated, oh and won’t spend 45 minutes fighting with my wardrobe every morning.
The Pink Coat
I’m certain you’ve heard, pink hues are a pretty big deal this season. Even bigger than this however – the pink coat. With Roksanda Ilincic and Simone Rocha leading the catwalk with this trend, there have inevitably been hundreds of High Street interpretations. My fave? Surprisingly, by M&S! The cut and colour create a statement piece worth every penny.
The Man-ish Shoe
It comes and goes every season but it’s always worth buying an update. My choice for the season are these heeled patent loafers from Aldo. Dressed up or down, with tailoring or dainty dresses, this pair will see you looking cool all winter.
This one is a particular favourite of mine, simply because you can spill your lunch down it and it just wipes off! What more could you need? Oh yeah, it looks pretty fabulous too. Team this H&M version with a simple white tee, your loafers and your M&S coat – good to go.
It’s autumn/winter and where would we be without camouflage? Whistles have done a particularly brilliant version of the trend this year taking heavy influence from Christopher Kane. They have pretty much every separate you need in the print. My advice? Buy it all, or as least as much as you can afford. My first choices are the parka, the tailored trouser and the cropped shirt. Coming soon to a Whistles near you…
Slip and slide
The slip fancy is already here but have it from us that this style siren is not going anywhere. Get your hands on this Topshop number in no other hue than pink. Style it simply on its’ own or layer with cable and bobble knits for a textured up seasonal look.
The Statement Bag
You can’t get through Christmas without a little help from Mulberry. Treat yourself this year to the new Bayswater Shoulder Bag, lighter, smaller and even cuter than its predecessor. The auburgine hue has stolen my heart, but if you’re a little unsure, we’re always backing black.
The White Shirt
No explanation needed. It’s classic and it goes with everything. I love Topman’s short sleeved version, don’t go too oversized though, or it will lose its appeal.
Darken the floral
Florals may be a spring favourite but they’re huge for winter too. Keep them dark and gothic if you’re going to play with this trend, this stem flower play suit from warehouse is perfect to take you from office to bar.
