With the heatwave continuing its’ golden reign for another week, we’ve put the heavy foundations to rest, rescued our new sandals from their unopened boxes and put the sunnies on to make the most of the rays. Combat the heat and stay safe in the sun with our SPF essentials…
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that SPF on the face equals flash face. Put those frets and qualms aside and slather on the SPF-heavy face products and thank us later when your skin continues to feel quenched, replenished and wrinkle free. Our favourite face base with added SPF quality is the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream. Created by the frontrunners of the BB game, this BB cream has SPF 42 (read ’em and weep) and doubles as a moisturiser, skin brightener, whitener and face base with a light to medium coverage.
Our other SPF favourite for the face is Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Sun Defence for Face (RRP £21.25). With an SPF of 50, it easily trumps Missha for a different purpose. Packed with ingredients that reflect sunrays and keep the skin lightly hydrated, we’ve been throwing ours in the handbag for no-makeup days.
To complete the SPF round-up, don’t forget the lips. Our must-haves for heat exposed lips include the By Terry Baume de Rose IP/SPF 15 (RRP £35), a slightly more expensive choice that looks equally good on the lips as in your handbag or on your desk. Heavy duty but without the tacky feeling, this number boasts SPF 15 for a reparative, nourishing, anti-aging and intense protection all rounder.
For more affordable alternatives, Nivea come out on top with their newly reformulated Soothe and Protect Lip Balm (£2.59). This number combines Vitamin E for a soothing and protective care that protects again UVA and UVB rays with SPF 15. We’re also huge fans of the Carmex Moisture Plus (RRP £4.49), harbouring an SPF of 15 in a lipstick style tube with a beautiful satin gloss finish.
- Top up your SPF throughout the day. Look to an SPF rich facial mist like the Ole Henriksen Balancing Cucumber Face Tonic Mist (RRP £21) which has SPF 15 and soothing chamomile or the Dr Jart+ Most Moist Water Act Skin Mist (RRP (£18) which hydrates and tones.
- Get in the habit of refreshing your lip balm every few hours. Your lips are ultra sensitive and will burn quickly if left unprotected.
- Shield the face with Ray-Bans and a dramatic floppy sunhat.
