Struggling to make it through the week already? The 23rd-29th April 2013 plays host to UK Coffee Week. So in celebration, we’ve headed to Birmingham and scouted out some of the best hideaways for coffee and other delights.

1. Yumm Café; The Custard Factory, Gibb St., Birmingham

Yumm Café is a complete breath of fresh air, nestled in amongst the thrift, vintage and creative hub of Birmingham – Digbeth. They are a friendly bunch and even take your name, when you order. If you’re peckish, try their food. Chicken and Prawn Jambalaya, anyone?

Find them on Twitter at @yummcafe.

2. Urban Coffee Company; 30 Church St., Colmore Business District, Birmingham

I always think that some of my meetings have occurred in coffee shops. Urban Coffee Company is a stone’s throw away from Snow Hill Station and they have another shop, located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. If you’re looking to impress a client, Urban Coffee Company is one of the best independents around. They even deliver, if you’re local.

Find them on Twitter at @urbancoffeeco.

3. Yorks Bakery Café; 1 Newhall St., Birmingham

Fancy a real Belgian hot chocolate? If you’re looking for a coffee shop that makes you feel just a little bit cool, Yorks’ is your place. Their food is divine – an excellent range of salads. The atmosphere is relaxed , with the décor possessing an empty warehouse feel and even the furniture was made in Birmingham.

Find them on Twitter at @yorksbakerycafe.

4. Fredericks Coffee Lounge and Bar; 50 Frederick St., Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham

Stumbling across this was one of the best Saturday afternoons I had. The pink and black décor is rich and sophisticated. The service is wonderful. It’s quiet during the day but comes alive in the evening, serving as a bar and can also be hired out for events. This is a great place for a laid back date.

5. Six Eight Kafe; 6/8 Temple Row, Birmingham

Six Eight has only been open for two years and has already been voted one of the top 50 coffee shops in the UK, by the Independent. Creatives are a huge fan of Six Eight, with various groups from writers, to book clubs, to media groups making bookings there. Drop by for one of the best flat whites you will have in town. Oh and if you’re in the city in February, try to make it to one of their birthday parties. They even have a swanky basement area.

Find them on Twitter at @SixEightKafe.
