Learn to make a simple yet yummy cake that won’t break the bank and doesn’t require Nigella Lawson skills in the kitchen.


  • 1 chocolate cake mix packet
  • 1 egg
  • 50g butter
  • 1 packet of Oreos
  • strawberry flavoured frosting
  • fresh strawberries
  • 12″ cake tin


one. // Put the premade cake mix into a bowl and add an egg and two tablespoons of water.

two. // Preheat the oven to 180°C. Whisk the cake mixture for two minutes until the mixture is smooth, and pour the mixture into a cake tin. Cover lightly with tin foil and place in the oven for 40 minutes.

three. // Whilst the cake is in the oven, open the frosting and place it into a bowl to bring it to room temperature.

four. // Put the Oreos into sandwich bags – try doubling up if you’re worried about one splitting – and crush the biscuits with a rolling pin. Stir into the strawberry flavoured frosting; this will become the cake topping.

five. // After 40 minutes have passed, take the cake out of the oven and leave to stand and cool for a few minutes.

six. // Smother the cake in your strawberry and Oreo frosting and top off with fresh chopped strawberries. You could try sprinkling more crushed Oreos over the top of the cake… you know, just for good measure!

seven. // Finally, serve with a nice cup of tea or glass of ice cold milk.
