The Vampire Diaries is an ongoing American drama series. It is currently on its fourth season and it has been renewed for a fifth season as well.

The Vampire Diaries is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, and focuses on the life of Elena Gilbert, a 17 year old human girl. Elena falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, a 162 year old vampire. Damon Salvatore, Stefan’s brother, also enters the scene. Damon makes things more complicated as he also begins to show affection towards Elena, who looks very much like both Stefan and Damon’s first love.

This probably sounds very much like Twilight because there are vampires in it but I can assure you that it is nothing like it. The only similarity I guess is the fact that there are vampires and werewolves. (But The Vampire Diaries also has other supernatural beings such as doppelgangers, witches, hunters, ghosts and hybrids.) In my opinion, it is MUCH better than Twilight. There is more action, more complicated love lines and overall, it has a better, more realistic plot. If you liked Twilight, I think you would love The Vampire Diaries just as much, if not even more. However, if you didn’t like Twilight, I reckon you should still give The Vampire Diaries a shot because I can assure you that there are no sparkly vampires. One last thing I have to mention is that Ian Somerhalder (the actor who plays Damon) has some of the best script lines EVER, with one of my favourites being: “Do I look like I know anything about tattoos? Look at my skin. It’s flawless.”
